What is the meaning of WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup)?
Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) is a method for easy and secure establishment of a wireless range extender with the help of Wi-Fi technology. Conventionally users had to first create a wireless network name and then manually enter security key on client and router. The main reason to have this security key is to check unwanted access to your wireless network. The user can install Netgear extender by following one of the following ways:
- By following the PIN (Personal Identification Number) Method. In this method, the user has to note the PIN of the WPS device. A PIN can be noted down from either sticker label or by logging into the web interface of the device. Then this PIN has to be filled in an Access point or client WPS device.
- The second method is PBC (Push button configuration) Method. Under this method uses only has to push or press button on both clients and host WPS devices.
Why I had not received install CD along with my Netgear range extender?
Some extenders such as Netgear EX7000 extender does not come along with installation CD. The reason for the same is an advanced feature of Genie setup. Genie setup is used to install Netgear extender. A user can connect with default SSID ‘NETGEAR_EXT’ through his wireless device. This will prompt you to EX7000 Web GUI, through which you can do changes as required.
